Southwark Council granted planning permission for Cantium Retail Park, a mixed-use redevelopment that will deliver 1,113 homes alongside office, retail and flexible space.

The scheme implements the vision set in the draft of the Old Kent Road Area Action Plan and, together with other upcoming developments, is set to deliver a significant change in density, urban grain and townscape in the area.

GIA worked on Internal Daylight and Sunlight, Solar Glare, Impacts on Neighbours and produced an ES chapter for the scheme.

Extensive work was done to optimise daylight and sunlight amenity within the scheme, including change in massing, internal layouts and façade details. As a result, the scheme will provide occupants with very good daylight and sunlight despite the proposed high density. The committee acknowledged this following the officer’s presentation and support.
